An independent guide to insuring an electric car — what it costs, what is covered, and how to pay less.
Why this site exists
Electric cars are priced, repaired, and covered differently from petrol and diesel ones — and most owners find that out only when the quote arrives. A battery pack can be worth a third of the car. Body repairs route through a limited network of certified shops. Insurance groups treat instant torque like the performance feature it is.
Almost none of that is explained anywhere useful. EV Cover Guide exists to explain it in plain English, so you can tell the difference between a high quote that reflects real risk and one you should walk away from.
What we actually do
We research published data — insurer average-premium reporting, ABI and Thatcham insurance group ratings, Euro NCAP safety results, manufacturer battery warranty terms — and turn it into guides that answer a specific question. Every cost figure is an approximate published range for a stated year, not a quote, and we say so on the page.

What we are not
We are an information website. We are not an insurer, a broker, or an intermediary. We do not sell policies, run quote engines, or collect your details to pass to salespeople. We hold no regulatory authorisation to give advice, and nothing here is personal financial advice — for that, use a licensed insurer or adviser.
We also have no commercial relationship with any insurance company named on this site. When we list insurers worth comparing, nobody paid to be on that list.
How we make money
Third-party display advertising, which keeps the guides free. Advertisers never see articles before publication and cannot commission, approve, change, or remove coverage. We do not sell reviews, rankings, or links.
Tell us when we are wrong
Insurance changes, and we will get things out of date or occasionally wrong. If you spot something, email hello@evcoverguide.com with the page and the specific claim, and we will check it and correct it. Corrections are made openly, with the page's date updated — see the editorial policy for how we handle them.
