EV Cover Guide

Editorial Policy

How we research, write, source, and correct everything on this site — and where our money comes from.

Who writes this site

EV Cover Guide is an independent publisher. Guides are researched and written by our editorial team from published data — we are not an insurer, a broker, or an intermediary, and we have no commercial relationship with any insurance company named on this site.

We are not licensed insurance advisers, and nothing here is personal financial advice. Our job is to explain how EV insurance is priced and what to check, so you can make a better-informed decision with a licensed insurer. Where a question needs a regulated answer, we say so.

Where our figures come from

The premium ranges on this site are compiled from publicly available sources, including:

  • Published average-premium reporting from insurers and comparison services
  • UK insurance group ratings set by the Thatcham Research Group Rating Panel with the Association of British Insurers (ABI)
  • Safety and crash-test data from Euro NCAP and equivalent bodies
  • Manufacturer-published battery warranty terms and vehicle specifications
  • Regulator and industry guidance on motor insurance practice

What our numbers are — and are not

This matters more on insurance than almost any other topic, so we are explicit about it:

  • Every figure we publish is an approximate range reflecting reported market averages, clearly labelled with the year it applies to.
  • They are not quotes. We do not have access to any insurer's rating engine, and no published average can tell you your price.
  • We do not publish per-insurer prices. Individual carriers price on dozens of variables; naming a company and a number would imply a precision that does not exist.
  • Where we name insurers, it is to tell you who is worth quoting — never to claim one is cheapest for you.
  • Your age, location, claims history, mileage, no-claims record, and chosen excess routinely move a premium more than the car does. We say so on every cost page.

How we handle accuracy

  • Every article carries a visible last-updated date.
  • Cost figures are reviewed at least every 6–12 months, because premiums move.
  • We update rather than republish: when figures change we revise the existing guide and change its date, so you can see how current it is.
  • We avoid false precision. Where the honest answer is "it depends, and here is what it depends on", that is what we write.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to fix it. Email us at hello@evcoverguide.com or use the contact page, and please point to the specific page and claim. We correct factual errors promptly and update the page's revision date when we do. We do not quietly delete pages to hide mistakes.

How this site is funded, and what that does not buy

This site is free to read and funded by third-party display advertising. Advertisers do not see our articles before publication, cannot commission or approve coverage, and cannot have content changed or removed.

We do not accept payment for reviews, rankings, placements, or links. If we ever add affiliate arrangements, we will disclose them plainly on the pages they affect and in this policy — not in small print.

Our use of AI

We use software tools, including AI assistance, in drafting and editing — as most publishers now do. Every guide is reviewed and edited by a person before publication, and we are responsible for what appears here regardless of the tools used to produce it. Facts, figures, and sources are checked by a human, not accepted from a model.

What we will not do

  • Publish invented statistics, or attribute figures to sources that do not support them
  • Claim professional qualifications or regulatory status we do not hold
  • Present advertising as editorial content
  • Recommend anything that requires a licensed adviser to recommend responsibly
